Port Harcourt in Nigeria on July 2, 1991, saw the birth of a future super talent into a very musical family. Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti was managed by his grandfather Benson Idonije, and the rest of his family was passionate about music as well, passing their enthusiasm onto him at a young age. The first genres influencing his musical upbringing included Jamaican dancehall, Nigerian highlife, and American Rap. He then started making his own music as a teenager and performed at talent shows.

In 2010 he released his first album called “L.I.F.E.” (Leaving an Impact for Eternity), but his mixtape “Burn Identity” that marked his breakthrough moment in Nigerian music. “Like to Party” was an instant success and helped him gain a broad audience. Soon, he gained international recognition and by 2018 he was famous way beyond the borders of the African continent.
In 2019 he released “African Giant” which brought him a Grammy nomination for the Best World Music Album. He managed to fuse Afrobeat, dancehall, and reggae, addressing themes such as inequality, colonialism, and African pride. A year later, his fifth studio album solidified his status as a musical icon as he won the Grammy for the Best Global Music Album for “Twice as Tall”.
